Pakistan won the opening match of Asia Cup 2012


Pakistan has defeated Bangladesh in the opening match of the Asia Cup 2012. Mohammad Hafeez and Umar Gul made an all-round effort in this Pakistan's win. Bangladesh also did well in this tight match. Here is the detailed report about this match.

Pakistan has won the opening match of Asia Cup 2012 defeating bangladesh in the match by 21 runs. In this nail-biting match, Bangladesh played well but their lower-order collapse in chase let them down. The match was pleyed at Shere Bangle National Stadium, Mirpur.
Wonderful Opening Stand
After winning the toss Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim elected to field first. Pakistani opener Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed played cautiously in the beginning. They both took the teams score to 135 in 28th over when Jamshed was run-out by Shakib. Bangladesh came back by picking three quick wickets in the Pakistan innings. Shahadat Hossain was the man who damaged the Pakistan's innings most. At one time Pakistan were seven down for 198 runs, but Umar Gul and Sarfraj Ahmed put together 53 runs for the eightth wicket in just 46 balls and take the score above 250. Pakistan's innings ends on 262/8 in 50 overs. Hafeez was the top scorer with 89 runs while Jamshed made 54 runs.

In reply Bangladesh made a strong start. Tamim Iqbal and Nazimuddin made 45 runs for the first wicket. Tamim then added another 45 runs for the second wicket with Jahurul Islam. Bangladesh hav a big blow when Tamim was bowled by Hafeez in 29th over at the score of 135/4. Tamim made a patient 64 runs. Shakib Al Hasan and Nasir Hossain started building the innings again and it they were smelling a victory hwen they added 89 runs for the sixth wicket. But with the departure of Nasir, bangladesh lost their way. Umar Gul bowled a tight spell at the end of the Bangladesh innings and prevented Bangladesh from a victory. Shakib was the last batsman to out. He made 64 runs. Umar Gul was the most successful bowler and took 3 wickets.
