Real Betis is a Spanish football club. The club was founded 105 years ago in 1907. The club has become the winner of top Spanish football league La Liga in 1934-35. The club has also been the winner of Copa del Rey two times.

History


In 1907, the club was founded with name Baetis by students of a Polytechnic Academy. In 1914 its name was changed to Real Baetis Balompie. During 1930s, the club achieved success. They top the Segunda Division in 1932. By this win the club got entry in the La Liga for the first time. In 1935, the club won the La Liga season. The club was relegated from the La Liga after their poor run in 1940 season. During 1950s the club was even relegated from Second Division to Tercera Division. In 1954, the club won the Tercera Division. This made the club the winner of all the three Divisions.
Won the Copa del Rey
Betis returned to the top Division in 1958-59 and again relegated to second division in 1967. In 1974-75 season they make another comeback to the top division. The club won the Copa del Rey tournament by beating Athletic Biblao in the final. They also finished fifth in La Liga that season. The club qualified for their first UEFA Cup in 1982 but defeated in the first round. They again qualified for the tournament in 1984 but the result was the same.
1990-2010
During the 1990s, the club was relegated to the second division. In 1994-95 season, it again promoted to to the Top Division. The club also qualified for the UEFA Cup for several times during this period. It reached the quarter-final of the 1997-98 European Cup Winners' Cup. In 2004, the club finished fourth in the La Liga division. This helps him to compete in the UEFA Champions League for the first time. The club won the Ramon de Carranza Trophy in 2007. They defeated top Spanish club Real Madrid in the semi-final of the tournament. The club was once again relegated to Second Division after they finished 18th in 2008-09 La Liga season but returned to the top Division after two years.
2011-present
In 2011, the club returned to the Top Division. It finished on 13th position. Ruben Castro was eighth in the list of highest goal scorer in the season with 16 goals. In the current ongoing season of 2012-13 La Liga, the club has won four of its matches out of seven and currently placed on fourth in the League Table. Ruben Castro is the leading goal scorer from the club in the ongoing season.
