Womens Hockey

History of Womens Hockey dates back to 1889 in Ottawa and the first recorded all-womans hockey game was held at Barrie, Ontario in 1892. Female club team was formed in the year 1894 at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. The year 1914 saw first womans hockey championship and United States hosted an International hockey tournament in Cleveland in 1916. During 1930s and 1940s due to World War II, womens hockey started to decline. Only during 1970s things begin to picked up right and several open-age leagues were formed. In 1987 first Womens World Hockey Tournament was held at North York, Ontario. In 1990 Canada wins the gold medal in IIHF Womens World Championship held at Ottawa.
