French tennis player Richard Gasquet has won the 2012 PTT Thailand Open men's tennis tournament. He easily defeated his countrymen Gilles Simon by 6-2,6-1 in the singles final. The doubles title goes to the pair of Lu Yen-hsun and Danai Udomchoke who defeated the pair of Eric Butorac and Paul Hanley by 6-3,6-4 in the doubles final. Runners-up Gilles Simon defeated the number one seeded Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia by 6-4,6-4 to reach the final.

Seventh singles title for Richard Gasquet


By winning the singles title of Thailand Open held at Bangkok, Gasquet has now seven singles title in his name. This is also the third time in this year when he reached the final of an ATP tournament. He also reached the finals of Estoril Open and Canada Masters of this year. He came into the tournament as second seed. His singles ranking is still No. 14 after this win. Richard Gasquet defeated Grigor Dimitrov, Bernard Tomic and Jarkko Nieminen in this tournament before reaching the final. In second round he defeated Dimitrov by 5-7,7-5,6-4. His third round affair against Bernard Tomic ended up as 7-6,6-4 in favor of him. In semi-final he defeated Nieminen by 3-6,7-5,6-2 score.
