IPL 2012 - Results, Scorecard of Day 1


In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012, the first day belongs to Mumbai Indians batsman Richard Levi who made an aggressive 50 off 35 balls in the teams easy eight victory against Chennai Super Kings. Read this report on the first day of the IPL 2012.

In the inaugural match of the IPL 2012 (Indian Premier League season five), Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets. In this match between two big teams of the tournament Mumbai Indians proved better in all the three departments batting, bowling and fielding. Super Kings fails to score a good total on the board and the new Twenty 20 sensation of South Africa Richard Levi takes the match away from them by hitting a half-century in his debut match in IPL.

Match Review: Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians


Harbhajan Singh the newly appointed captain of Mumbai Indians won the toss and choose to field first. His decision proved right when their bowlers took two early wickets of openers F du Plessis and Murali Vijay. F du Plessis got run out by Ambati Rayadu. Suresh Raina played some good shots in his 36 run innings. In the middle overs Mumbai bowler Pragyan Ojha and Harbhajan makes the runs difficult to score by the batsman. Ojha got the price wicket of well settled Raina and Dwayne Bravo. Kieron Pollard removes Badrinath and Albie Morkel. Super Kings were not even able to play their quota of 20 overs. They ended up scoring 112 runs in 19.5 overs. Malinga, Ojha and Pollard took two wickets each.

In reply, Mumbai Indians opener Richard Levi and Sachin Tendulkar got aggressive start. Richard Levi was the first man to got out. He made 50 off 35 deleveries. Sachin who was playing on 16 got retired hurt. Rohit Sharma came to bat but didn't stay for a long time and was caught by Dhoni on the bowling of Bollinger. Mumbai went past the Chennai's score in seventeenth over. Richard Levi for his hitting display was selected as the Player of the Match.
