Amateur golf star chikkarangappa

Golf traditionally has been a game of the rich, elite and intelligent group of people .Many players not belonging to the above category have also made it big in this sport industry which is one of the richest in the world. The name of Tiger Woods easily comes to our mind, and the name of rising Indian golfer chikkarangappa is another example of a person who has come out of adversity and a very humble back ground.

Chikkarangappa was born in a village in the suburbs of Bangalore called ''Rangegowdana doddi''in the limits of Bidadi hobli on the Bangalore-Mysore road. His parents are father Seenappa,a small time agriculturist and mother Revamma a laborer. The family was poor and chilkkarangappa was forced to study at a government school with the local language 'Kannada' as his medium of instruction. When he was barely 10 in order to make ends meet he joined the ''Eagle ton golf resort 'on the suburbs of Bangalore. He became fascinated with this game ,he himself made a golf stick with a branch of a tree and during his free time vanished in to the woods to practice the 'golf swing'. one day he dared to bring the golf stick and started to practice golf in hiding.Days went by and a coach named Mr Vi jay Dhivecha noticed him playing ,impressed he asked this young boy whether he wanted to play 'golf' chikkarangappa was hesitant because he had come to earn rs 50/day to support his family and how could he even dream of playing this expensive game. His family was reluctant to allow him to play they feared they might lose him ,but they finally agreed .Chikrangappa's golfing journey began ,he continued to work as a ball boy along side golf practice and schooling.Soon he began to master the skills of the game and started to dream of golf all the time .This made him to quit school and take up golf full time, he later became a 'caddy'.Chikrangappa could not speak 'English' whatever his coach Mr Divecha instructed he used to write in his mother tongue and put to use.He played in his first tournament at OOTY and stood second to everyone's surprise. He later won the tournament organized by ''EAGLE TON GOLF CLUB'' .It was from here, there was no stopping this young lad ,he went on from strength to strength .He has won the India juniors three times and won the INDIA amateur championship 2 times. Chikkarangappa was only 16 when he won the 'India amateurs ' and is the youngest so far to have won this championship. He has helped INDIA win the silver medal twice, bronze once and gold medal once .These achievements he says have given him immense pride and satisfaction.
As chilkkarangappa continued to excel, every time he did well, a host of journalists &,reporters began to seek his interviews and comments ,this was very embarrassing for chikkarangappa because he was not fluent in English ,people laughed at his English .He took it as a challenge and mastered the the language today chikkarangappa speaks English very fluently with a polished accent.
In spite of all his achievements Chikkarangappa remains humble ,gentle and a simple human being. He is a is a source of inspiration not only to his village people but to all the sports people who come from outside of cities with rural background. He is just 18 years of age and wishes to turn ''professional[pro]'' next year in order to compete with the worlds best .
As a confident, focused ,and ambitious young man he has adapted the right mental approach to come out with the best. For a coach to pick a player who is not blessed with the fortunes of life except talent and to promote him this far , is very rare coach.Mr VI JAY DIWECHA indeed is a noble person Indian sport needs more of such people ,may the tribe increase.Let's wish chikkarangappa wins more laurels and takes takes India to greater heights in the world of golf'.
